This Full Moon, Act First, and Think Later
Ava Tichenor
Dear Astrology Reader,
On the 25th or 26th of October (depending on your time zone), we have a full moon in sidereal Aries, in the nakshatra of Ashwini.
Ashwini is the first of the lunar mansions. Its symbolism is a horse’s head or a horseman, and it is governed by twins called the Ashwini Kumars, who are the sons of Surya (the Sun). These twins have divine healing powers and are said to be the ‘physicians of the gods.’
A full moon is a time of culmination and the ending of a cycle that began six months prior. What seeds, projects, and intentions were the themes you were beginning back then, when there was a new moon in the same sign? What’s interesting about this full moon is that it is an ending at the beginning.
Venus, who is opposite this Moon, has already spent weeks retrograde, giving us the homework on how we show up in relationships and partnerships, and on the codependencies and patterns that keep appearing. It has gotten us to think honestly about how we are in our relationships… and this is the healing medicine that Ashwini allows us to act on, now that we have found what needs to change in the reflections of what has been shown to us.
There is not much time to think this full moon. It is shining bright in Ashwini; it is swift, fast-paced and making quick decisions from a place inside of you that always felt like it was an eventual destination—somewhere there has always been an excuse of ‘when I am healed,’ or ‘when I feel better,’ or ‘when I move on from this person, place or situation, I will feel better about making those choices,’ but there is no time.
One door is closing and the next door to go through is right there in front of you.
In a way, this is the opposite of the usual advice we get in society—to ‘think first, act later.’ Instead, this period is asking you to open the door, to act first and think about it later. This is exactly the beautiful nature of this nakshatra: leading headlessly, with only heart and Venus’ medicine in hand.
