§3. Purposes.

We use personal information only to: deliver the newsletter; respond to correspondence and submissions; fulfill orders; operate, secure and troubleshoot the Site; understand which pieces are read; and comply with law. We do not use it for any other purpose without telling you first.

§4. Disclosure.

We disclose personal information to service providers who process it on our behalf and are contractually restricted to that purpose. Those providers are, in full: Squarespace (hosting, form and newsletter storage, analytics), Stripe (payments), and Google (reCAPTCHA on web forms). We also disclose information where required by law, valid legal process, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. This list is exhaustive as of the effective date above and will be updated before any addition takes effect.

§5. What we do not do.

We do not sell personal information. We do not rent, trade, or otherwise share it for anyone else's marketing. We do not disclose or license it for use in training artificial-intelligence systems. We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not display advertising on the Site.

§6. Cookies and similar technologies.

Squarespace sets cookies necessary to operate the Site, and analytics cookies that record visits. The visitor identifier persists for two years; session identifiers expire in thirty minutes. Squarespace processes some of this data as an independent controller for its own purposes, including platform security, under its own privacy policy rather than this one. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; parts of the Site may then not function.

§7. Third parties on our pages.

Google reCAPTCHA and our web fonts load from their providers, which receive your IP address when they do. Embedded Instagram posts are delivered by Meta, which may recognize you. These parties may collect information about your activity across websites. We do not control that collection and it is governed by their policies, not this one.

§8. Do Not Track.

We do not track visitors across third-party websites, and we do not permit advertising or analytics partners to do so on our behalf. We therefore do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. If this changes, we will amend this clause before the change takes effect.

§9. Material collected in person.

We collect handwritten cards and notes at Factory Settings events. Conspicuous signage at the event states that material left with us may be published; publication rights are governed by our Terms. We remove names and postal addresses from our working copies. We do not publish a home address, and we do not publish what a card says about a person other than its author. Where we ask for a postal address, we ask separately and only with your express agreement, and we use it only for what you agreed to. You may ask us to withdraw your contribution at any time, without giving a reason.

§10. Retention and disposal.

We keep newsletter and correspondence records while the relationship is active and delete them on request. Cards and notes collected at events are retained in redacted form for archival and editorial use; original cards and unredacted copies are destroyed by December 31, 2026. We dispose of records containing personal information by shredding, erasure, or by otherwise rendering the information unreadable.

§11. Security.

We maintain security procedures and practices reasonable and appropriate to the nature of the information we hold, and we hold as little of it as we can. Most of it resides with Squarespace and Stripe under their own security programs. No system is entirely secure, and we make no representation to the contrary.

§12. Children.

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

§13. Your choices.

To see, correct, or delete what we hold, or to unsubscribe, email editor@factorysettingsmag.com. We will respond within thirty days. Every newsletter also carries an unsubscribe link, which we honor within ten business days.

§14. Changes.

We will post any revision to this policy on this page with a new version number and effective date. Where a change is material, we will describe it here and, if we hold your email address, notify you before it takes effect.
