Under The Taurus New Moon, Tend What’s Already Yours
On the 16th of May, this upcoming new moon is in sidereal Taurus in the nakshatra called Krittika. This fortnight we could imagine ourselves walking around in the backdrop of a garden—which is the perfect metaphor for a Taurus New Moon—seeing the cascading flowers from pots, lush and layered borders, and roses that are vibrating at the frequency of love, as you stare in awe of the beauty that surrounds you.
Perhaps you witness little droplets of water on the leaves from a spring sprinkle and a light wind that brings you the gift of breathless optimism for the months to come. This setting for the upcoming new moon is not just any garden, but your own garden.
If this were a new moon in Rohini nakshatra, it would be one of enjoying the garden by frolicking and relaxing, soaking it all up with all of your senses, but a Krittika new moon is asking you to pull up your sleeves, put on your wellies, and look around at what needs to be done.
“So the question is, how are you tending to or mending your garden beds?”
The symbol for Krittika is a knife, just like our secateurs we use to cut away what no longer serves us. Agni is the fire deity and helps us burn it clean, and the Sun, the ruling planet, allows the light to illuminate even the most overgrown corners of the garden. All the tools to help you cultivate what you want for the months to come.
So the question is, how are you tending to or mending your garden beds? Are you pulling out old projects that have been pushed down or buried? Maybe rearranging and seeing what only needs a little sunshine to have the possibility to grow? Because, sometimes, it’s not about sowing new seeds, but searching around and seeing what is already there and just needs nurturing.
I wish you all a beautiful new moon, and lastly, as Voltaire wrote in the final line of Candide, “One must cultivate one’s own garden.”
